USAID Under Fire: Some Findings Should Shock You
Share

USAID does incredibly important, lifesaving work, including delivering food assistance to crisis zones, managing global health programs like polio vaccinations, clearing landmines, and providing prosthetics to injured soldiers. Its reach and effectiveness in areas like famine detection and public health are unparalleled.

However, the corruption and misallocation of funds within its contractor partnerships and organizations with questionable ties warrants attention. The way all tax dollars are spent should matter to all, irrespective of politics.

Funds meant for aid too often line the pockets of middlemen rather than reaching those in need. I don’t advocate for its shutdown by any means, I believe USAID plays an important role in our global fabric, but let’s look to where it could be better.

As someone who does this work because I am drive to in any small way help those in need, I want to be assured that our taxpayer dollars are not making corrupt individuals wealthier while others continue to suffer.

The USAID’s very own Office of the Inspector General highlights the lack of oversight and transparency, making this assurance impossible to find. Take a look at these reports yourself if you have a moment. These issues have persisted under both Democratic and Republican administrations, and they cannot continue unchecked.

Let’s take a deep dive.
