Words that Never Leave You: “You don’t have to love them right away. You can learn to love somebody.”
Part Forty-Six in an ongoing series from Hollie's book "Words That Never Leave You: Fifty Pearls of Wisdom and Reflection from Survivors Across the World."
In Pakistan, a young college woman named Neha wrapped herself in the most exquisite dress I had ever seen as her friends prodded her doll-like face with sparkles and shine as she prepared to give herself away to her fiancé, a man she did not know.
Of course, arranged marriages are prevalent in this part of the world, but they remain a notion of profound intrigue to my outside eyes. Nervous, Neha assured me that stepping into the unknown was one of the most righteous acts of faith she had to give and offered me a refreshing antithesis to the romantic comedy tale my friends and I were sold: love does not always need to dominate, yet it can grow wild in the passage of time.
“You don’t have to love them right away,” Neha accentuated. “You can learn to love somebody.”
